CFDT-MAE is the Ministry’s 1st trade union organization with 35% of votes obtained in the last professional elections of 2022 and 6 staff representatives elected out of 15 to the ministerial administration social committee (CSAM). It also has a strong presence on most other social dialogue bodies in France and abroad: the central administration social committee (CSAC), the Nantes specialized committee (FS), joint administrative commissions (CAP) and joint consultative commissions (CCP), as well as most local administration social committees abroad (CSAPE) and local consultative commissions (CCL).
The CFDT-MAE defends all staff members, whatever their status and category: local recruits, staff on fixed-term/permanent contracts and A+, A, B and C permanent staff, in all departments and professions, without exception.
The CFDT-MAE, with its 1,000 members, promotes a cross-category expression of trade unionism, for the benefit of everyone, regardless of hierarchical status. This legitimacy in relaying the concerns and demands of all the Ministry’s employees is reflected in the composition of its union council, whose current 24 members, working in France or abroad, are fully representative of the working community: civil servants of all grades, public-sector contract employees and local-law employees..
While the CFDT-MAE’ s strong proposals make it a union organization that seeks dialogue, it does not hesitate to assert its opposition when the local or ministry-wide situation seems contrary to the interests of our employees..
In this way, it successfully supported the strike of local recruits in Tunisia on October 7, in their fight to protest against insufficient compensation for the drop in salaries following the introduction of withholding tax.
Similarly, the CFDT-MAE has repeatedly denounced to the Minister, at the CTMs of November 22, 2021 and February 25, 2022, the current reform of the senior civil service and its harmful consequences on our professions and professional choices.
- The CFDT-MAE stands for ambitious, demanding and committed trade unionism, based on solidarity and democracy, with a concern for the general interest and social progress for all.
If you share these values and would like to find out more about the CFDT-MAE, don’t hesitate to contact us at cfdt.mae@diplomatie.gouv.fr or make an appointment with one of our permanent staff in Nantes or Paris. We look forward to hearing from you!

- The CFDT attaches the utmost importance to democracy:
- In its internal operations, through broad-based member participation in decision-making at all levels: section, union, federation, confederation,
- In the professional sphere, through the opportunity to express their views and participate in the formulation of demands,
- The CFDT is concerned with greater solidarity, whether on a global scale (solidarity between peoples), on a national level (solidarity between social categories) or in the professional sphere (solidarity between employees).
- The CFDT is a union for individual and collective emancipation. It considers each individual to be free and responsible, and aims to develop each person’s capacity for choice. The role of the trade union is not to take the place of employees and “do things for them”, but to “do things with them”.
- The CFDT is a trade union with proposals to influence the choices that shape employees’ future. That’s why it places social dialogue and negotiation at the heart of its actions and practices.
